Weekly Trends: Venom Lose Cronos, Slipknot Go Full Stadium, Nailbomb Keep Swinging

By J. Tanner Garcia · October 2026

Rough week. We lost the man who gave black metal its name, Slipknot went full stadium with a stop in Houston, and the Cavalera family kept an old bomb ticking.

Venom lose Cronos: Conrad Lant, the voice that named black metal, dies at 63

Cronos is gone. Venom announced on October 1 that Conrad Lant, the bassist and voice of the band, has died at 63. No cause was given, and I'm not going to guess. Think about what this man left behind. Welcome to Hell in 1981. Black Metal in 1982, the record that gave an entire genre its name. Metallica, Celtic Frost, Mayhem and Behemoth have all pointed to Venom as an influence. He even drew the Satanic artwork on the logo and the covers. Into Oblivion came out this May, so he was making noise right up to the end. His son Nathan said his music will live on, and he's right. Every black metal band in corpse paint owes this man a cut. Three dudes from Newcastle didn't give a damn about the rules, and the world got louder. Rest easy, Cronos. Flowers for the grind.

Slipknot go full stadium: the 2027 world tour hits Houston and five South American cities

Slipknot just announced the (sic)est Stadium Tour for 2027, and it is not small. Wembley on July 3, then North America from July 16 to August 18. Houston gets Daikin Park on August 6 with Bring Me The Horizon and Polyphia, which is basically our backyard. South America closes it out in September: São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Lima and Bogotá. General on sale is October 2. Start saving now, because stadium tickets are not cheap.

Nailbomb keep swinging: Max and Igor Cavalera Jr. take Point Blank back on the road

Nailbomb is alive and on the road in North America with Soulfly. Max Cavalera brought it back in 2024, and his son Igor Jr. now holds down Alex Newport's old spot. Igor Jr. says the problems those songs were about are only louder 30 years later. Catch it.

Semana dura.

Welcome to Hell en 1981.
