Weekly Trends: Tony Iommi Goes Solo Again, Burn Eternal Sign to Metal Blade, Slayer Burn Down the Palacio

By J. Tanner Garcia · October 2026

Legend week. The man who invented the riff put out his first solo record in 21 years, a Killswitch reunion in everything but name finally found a label, and Slayer set Mexico City on fire.

Tony Iommi drops From The Dark: The Riff Lord Returns With His First Solo Record in 21 Years

Tony Iommi dropped From The Dark on October 23 through BMG, and I've been waiting on this one like a kid waits on Christmas. It's his first solo album since Fused in 2005, which means twenty-one years of waiting for the man who basically invented the riff to put his own name on something again. Eight tracks. Jørn Lande handles the vocals, Becky Baldwin plays bass, Karl Brazil sits behind the kit, and Iommi co-produced it with Mike Exeter. I haven't lived with it long enough to call it a masterpiece, and I'm not about to fake that. But I don't need a review to know what's at stake. Half the music I love exists because this guy tuned down and made it sound like the end of the world. Go buy it, spin it loud, and give the man his flowers while he's still here to get them.

Burn Eternal sign with Metal Blade: Howard Jones and Adam D Finally Get a Label

Burn Eternal signed with Metal Blade Records, announced October 21. That's Howard Jones, the voice Killswitch Engage fans never stopped missing, and Adam Dutkiewicz, who says the band is just the two of them. No release date, only a promise that music is coming soon. Jones had 13 demos back in August 2023 and the record was mixed in December 2024, so yeah, patience has been tested. Metal Blade is a damn good home for this. Now quit teasing and drop the thing.

Slayer burn down the Palacio: Reign in Blood Turns 40 in Mexico City

Slayer played all of Reign in Blood at the Palacio de los Deportes on October 21 for the album's 40th, with Power Trip opening. It was their first Mexico City show in eight years, and Raining Blood closed it out with fire everywhere. Mexico never misses.
